Purple Satellite — Classic Sativa Reproduction - Anonymous Overgrow Donation

1979 Oaxacan Gold Purple IBL × Nepalese Sativa

A true classic in northern sativa genetics, Purple Satellite is an early-finishing sativa originally developed from legendary landrace lines and reproduced outdoors by anon on Overgrow, preserving its tradition rather than reinventing it.

Purple Satellite is a pure sativa derived from two old school inbred selections — Oaxacan Gold Purple IBL, a historic Mexican sativa known for potency and color, and a high-altitude Nepalese Sativa, bringing vigor and outdoor resilience. This pairing produces a strain that finishes early for pure sativas and delivers expressive terpene character and reliable structure when grown outdoors.

Flavor & Aroma:
Expect classic sativa terpene complexity — strong cherry fragrance in mid-to-late bloom, backed by pine and cedar notes with touches of berry and incense as flowers mature. The smoke is smooth with a rich, fruity undertone that carries through the experience.

Effects:
Purple Satellite carries a clear, uplifting, social sativa high with a fast onset and warm comfort that keeps moods bright without the anxiety or racing headspace some pure sativas can bring. It’s motivating, laughter-inducing, and pleasantly uplifting — a classic daytime sativa experience.

Grower Notes:
Originally bred for northern outdoor climates, Purple Satellite finishes outdoors around September in cool or temperate zones and benefits from full sun and moderate nutrients. Plants are consistent from seed, often looking very similar across a pack, and tend to exhibit pink to fuchsia pistils and purple tinged calyxes even without cold nighttime temperatures. Resin production and mold resistance are strong, making it a good choice for unpredictable outdoor seasons.

Why It’s Valued:
Purple Satellite is prized for being one of the earliest reliable pure sativas available to northern growers, finishing before many others and handling cold, rain, and fungal pressures with dignity. Its lineage speaks to old-school sativa roots, and its expressive aroma and classic effects continue to draw fans.

This is what sativa used to mean

I've been growing since the late nineties and the shift away from real sativa genetics has always bothered me. Most of what gets called sativa today is a hybrid that leans slightly less indica than the last one. Purple Satellite is the genuine article. Oaxacan and Nepalese roots, grown and preserved the right way, not reinvented for indoor yields or marketing appeal. The cherry fragrance in mid-bloom is exactly as described and the effects are that clean, social, laughing-with-friends high that a lot of growers my age have been quietly missing. Finished in September without any drama. Mold pressure was a non-issue even in a wet fall.

Grateful this was reproduced and made available.
